I was reminded of a funny story today, and thought I would share it.
I was out fishing with Birchy and Wheels a couple weeks back - well, I havn't renewed my license yet so I wasn't actually fishing, but was hanging out with a couple of buddies while they tested the bow.... Anyway.
We were out under the pedestrian bridge by fish creek when along comes a little guy on his bike. He must have been 8-10. The conversation went something like this : Boy "You guys catch anything?" Me " My buddy over there caught a brown trout a few minutes ago" Boy "Where is it?" Me "We aren't allowed to keep any fish here on the river so we let it go" Boy "My dad keeps the fish that he catches here" Wheels "He could get in trouble." Boy "Only if you get caught" Me "Well, you are allowed to keep one small fish as long as it is smaller than a certain size" Boy "I think you should be able to keep one big fish"
At this point I'm shaking my head in disbelief...did he just say "only if you get caught?" I think Wheels mentioned something about how big the fines are, and that most fisherman would gladly report him, but we really didn't want to encourage him any more than necessary.
Anyways, we dubbed this little dude "Poacher in Training"
Overall, not a bad day - wheels got his first flyrod fish!

I can attest to this... I was fishing within earshot and heard most of the conversation. I just kept fishing while shaking my head.

That's awful...I've had similar experiences, a teenager tried to sell me some fish, I ran across a family with a cooler full of trout at Mckinnon's one day(I stayed and watched while another guy went to the top of the hill to get phone service...we got em ;D) The CO's can't be everywhere so it is up to us to report ANY illegal activity, weather it be fishing with bait, retaining illegal fish or illegal numbers of fish...
***DON'T BE SCARED, COLLECT AS MUCH INFO AS YOU CAN, DESCRIPTION, LICENCE PLATE NUMBERS ETC, AND MOVE AWAY TO MAKE THE CALL..HANG OUT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS, YOU MAY EVEN MAKE A FEW DOLLERS BEING THE GOOD GUY AND THATS RARE THESE DAYS*****
I have the R.A.P. number programmed in my phone

I don't know if it was the same kid or not, but I was fishing upstream of Fish Creek where the red shale path runs along the river, and this kid and his buddy ride up on their bikes. So the one kid asks if I had caught anything, I think I'd caught a couple so I said that. The kid goes " Where are they?" I say I let them go, he replies " Yeah sure". Just then I get one on the swing, it's a smaller bow that jumps a couple of times and I bring it in. He says if I'm going to let it go, can he have it to eat? I go "The sewage plant dumps out just upstream do you really want to eat it", and he goes probably not but he wants it to show his dad. Then throw away. So I say, not likely, and let it go. But as they leave I hear them say they're coming back with some worms. Lil poacher, I like that.
